Colostrum
(kə-ˈläs-trəm) n. 1. A liquid, especially rich in immune factors, secreted by the mammary glands of female mammals for a few days after parturition. This nutrient-rich substance contains antibodies, proteins, fats, carbs, vitamins and minerals. Synonyms: Foremilk, beestings, bisnings, first milk. Derivation: Latin colostrum "first milk from an animal," of unknown origin.Source
Bovine colostrum is produced as the first lacteal secretion of the bovine following calving. Our products contain only colostrum that has been harvested from the first milking, within 6 hours of birth. The later the colostrum is harvested, the more likely it is to have other ingredients, i.e. milk. That’s why we only use certified 6 hour colostrum, meaning it is 100% pure colostrum, no milk, and therefore suitable for lactose-intolerant individuals.Benefits
Over the past 20 years, over 2,000 research papers have been written on the benefits of bovine colostrum. Scientific studies show that bovine colostrum contains more than 80 bioidentical growth factors, and nearly 100 immune factors, as well as probiotics and prebiotics. Bovine colostrum is 40 times richer in immune factors than human colostrum, and is identical to human growth factors. This nutrient-rich superfood brings four major benefits to the human body: it builds, repairs, strengthens and restores. It does these four things to the hormonal system, the immune system, and the digestive system while providing a large number of essential nutrients. It is a natural source of IGF-1. IGF-1 is responsible for building lean muscle mass, helping with bone density and tissue regeneration.Uses
Bovine colostrum has a long history of being used by athletes to enhance performance, build lean muscle mass, increase stamina and recover from injuries. It is further used to improve mood, boost the immune system, slow aging, promote feelings of well-being, and repair nervous system damage. It contains special glycoproteins that are extremely effective at protecting the immune and growth factors from destruction in the digestive enzymes in adult humans. Colostrum has antioxidant properties and is a strong anti-inflammatory agent.Forms (delivery methods)
Bovine colostrum is available in extract, powder, capsule and tablets. The high temperatures generated by the tremendous pressure it takes to form a tablet destroy the biological activity of colostrum’s immune and growth factors. Thus, it is not recommended in tablet form.Side Effects
Bovine colostrum has no known drug interactions and most people consume colostrum with no side effects. Pregnant or nursing mothers should consult a physician before taking colostrum or any supplements. There is no known toxicity level with colostrum.Research:1 Bovine Colostrum Overview Information
